Our Camp Director
Steve Levin brings a tremendous amount of experience to the position of Camp Director. Steve has spent every summer of his life at camp (as long as he can remember!). After working at sleepaway camp for 4 summers, Steve began working at the 92nd Street Y in 1994. He worked his way "up the ranks" eventually becoming the Director of Camp Programs, serving about 1500 children each summer in a variety of day, travel and sleepaway camp programs. Steve was thrilled to try a new challenge and began at Claremont Prep in 2008. Steve has a BA in Psychology from Northwestern University and a Masters in Social Work from Hunter College. He has served on the adjunct faculty of Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service and as an active member of a number of camping associations. Steve has been a frequent participant, speaker, and committee member at a variety of camp conferences over the years. During the school year - when not planning camp! - Steve directs CAP (the Claremont Afterschool Program). Steve is the proud father of a young daughter, Maia, and cannot wait until she is old enough to start building her own camp memories!
Camp Staff
The summer program staff consists of well-trained, highly enthusiastic, dedicated professionals. The children will be grouped by age and led by skilled educators. Each group is led by a Head Counselor (a certified teacher) who is assisted by one or two counselors. Many activities are taught by qualified specialists who are experts in their activity area as well as experienced teachers of their craft. In addition, we contract with qualified partners, such as Super Soccer Stars, to enhance our already outstanding program. Most of the staff for camp work at Claremont Prep during the school year in a variety of capacities. The swimming program is led by Pete DeNoble, the Aquatics Director of Claremont Prep. The Café is run by our wonderful culinary staff, led by Executive Chef, Jenny Gensterblum. There is also a registered nurse at camp to care for our campers throughout the summer.
