CHA CHA CLAREMONT STYLE (PreK-1st) Enrico Mayuga
Join a dynamic professional ballroom dancer and educator in this introduction to rhythms and movement through music, dance and imaginatin. This fun courses will develop motor skills, coordination and self esteem.
LEVEL II VIOLIN (K-2nd) Luke Fleming
Students who have taken at least one semester of violin lessons can continue in this second level class. They will learn in a small group (maximum 4 students) with individualized attention. Children will learn through listening, playing, reflecting, & practicing. Students will need to provide their own violins.
PIANO WORKSHOP (K-2nd) Jordan Clawson: Piano School of NYC
In these small group classes, students are encouraged to learn basic music & piano skills: introduction to the keyboard, listening, singing, clapping, followed by note reading & writing, music theory, history & more!
JEWELRY DESIGNERS (K-2nd) Elizabeth Crowley
Please join us for some serious bead fun! We will be creating all different types of jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets, earrings, & pins. With a variety of materials & an assortment of beads, we will learn different techniques & create beautiful jewelry that we can wear ourselves or give as gifts. We hope you can join us in creating some fantastic wearable art!
ROCK BAND (K-1st) Mike Gamble
Students with & without prior experience are encouraged to come out & rock on either guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, or vocals. The class is led by CAP's legendary Mike Gamble who has been rocking with Claremont students for years! Students will jam together, laugh together, and make some great music!
CHESS CLUB (K-6th) Kids Chess Network
Chess emphasizes creative problem-solving & individual decision-making. Classes consist of both group discussion & supervised play. Each student progresses at their own pace, from learning the moves & values of the pieces to more advanced strategy & tactics. Chess is taught by highly experienced instructors from the Kids Chess Network. All levels are welcome.
WOODWORKING (1st-4th) Chris Mateer
Students will draw, design, saw, build, & paint all kinds of fun and exciting projects! We will use the tools of the shop to construct projects that have doors that open, lids that close, and wheels that go! All students will work cooperatively and learn to safely handle and use the "tools of the trade" including saws, hammers, files, glue, screwdrivers, & more!
GIRLS ROCK! (1st-4th) Devin Febbroriello
Rock Bands have fast become a phenomenon of the Claremont Afterschool Program. For the first time, we will offer girls-only Rock Band. Nothing rocks quite as much as an all-girl band! Write fun songs, try all the instruments, be the lead singer. Have a great time in this carefree environment where everyone gets to be part of the band.
SCULPTURE & CERAMICS (1st-4th) Andrea Yost
Ceramics will consist of hand-building projects such as tiles, coil pots, bowls, vases & creatures from children’s imaginations. Children will participate in the whole cycle of the process, preparing, shaping, & glazing.
SONGWRITING MADNESS! (1st-2nd) Kathy Hart
Everyone has a song inside of them! Whether you are already making up songs on your own or want to write a song, Songwriting Madness will make your ideas and songs come to life! Participants' will work like and musicians on at least one song together, perform it, and record it to keep forever! Lower School Music teacher, Kathy Hart, is a professional songwriter with credits in children's theater and cabaret and over ten years experience conducting fun songwriting sessions with children!
SILLY SCIENCE (1st-3rd) Bessie Leveson & Vittoria LaMicela
Welcome to the Claremont Science Lab where all kinds of fun will ensue as we engage in hand-on experiments that will fascinate students and teach them something amazing about chemistry, physics, and other sciences while keeping a big smile on their face. Each week will have unpredictable surprises, so put on your lab coat & come with an open mind.
HOMEWORK HELPER (1st-4th) tba
Lower school teachers will work with students to help them organize their weekly assignments and provide any assistance they may need. Students will be responsible for bringing their assignments each week and must be prepared to work quietly in a library-like environment.
