COMIC BOOK ART FOR KIDS (PreK-1st)                                     Devin Febbroriello

Students will create their own characters, settings, and plots as they complete basic comic books and other animation from their active imaginations. Race cars driving past castles? Flying dogs in outer space? Superheroes that can swim? Sure, why not! Everything’s possible in comics.

               

ARTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD! (K-1st)                               Melissa Lin & Heather Hopwood

In each class, the students will explore and create art from various regions of the world.  For example, we will create Japanese Origami forms, African weaving crafts, African tie-dyes, or Greek pottery.  We will briefly describe the historical context behind each piece of art and then work with the students to create the art.

2+2=Fun! Do you like exercising your mathematical mind? Do you want to build on what you learn during the day?  Join us for some fun math games, puzzles, and brain benders here at Math Masters!

 

COMPUTERS 4 KIDS (K-1st)                                                           Ashley Whitney

Students will be introduced to the basics of the computer & letter placement on the keyboard as they begin to learn how to use a computer in their lives. Children will become familiar with typing, learn how to write an email, begin to learn how to use the internet, and learn how to use a variety of exciting yet educational games that will reinforce concepts learned in the classroom (i.e. supplemental math programs).

With funky fabrics, colorful cloth, and awesome accessories, students in this class will create fashionable items to help them dress to impress.  We’ll decorate t-shirts and sunglasses, make hats and headbands, and maybe even design bags!

ART IS ALL AROUND (2nd-4th)                                                        Andrea Yost

Students will explore the sights of lower Manhattan with a sketch book in their hand. We will visit parks, public sculptures and historic landmarks all within 10 minutes walk from the school such as Trinity Church, Dubuffet’s Trees, and Louise Nevelson Plaza.  We will sketch what we find most interesting at each sight, and in the end we will compile Claremont Walking Tour Guide of Lower Manhattan. Put on your walking shoes!

 

CLAREMONT CHORISTERS (2nd-4th)                                            Kathy Hart

Students who love to sing are invited to be a part of the chorus!  Directed by Lower School Music Teacher Kathy Hart, the chorus will learn a variety of songs to entertain audiences at assemblies and other events.  New and returning Chorus members are welcome.  Please note that there is special attire required for performances available through the Land’s End catalog.  Please email khart@claremontprep.org w/ “Claremont Chorus” in subject line with any questions or for more information.
