Welcome to Claremont Preparatory High School
With great pride and anticipation I want to introduce you, prospective students and your parents, to the vision for Claremont Preparatory High School. I welcome you to participate with a team of seasoned, innovative educators in making history as we launch a new 21st Century High School located where New York City began in Lower Manhattan.
Claremont Preparatory School has in only four years established a vibrant prek-8 independent school and has grown from an initial 50 students to 500. As families have decided to remain and educate their children in New York City the demand for new schools is greater than ever. Claremont Preparatory School will open a ninth grade in September, 2009 in its current Broad Street building and expand its High School in an equally new state-of-the-art building, located nearby in September, 2010.
Guided by what we believe well educated students for the 21st Century will need to know and become, ours is a High School that brings a fresh perspective to learning in the following ways:
- We advance fluency regarding the 21st century's global imperatives through language study, travel and technology.
- Our curriculum will cultivate the imagination and creativity as well as the ability to analyze and research by offering a dynamic program in the arts alongside our strong academic courses.
- Our students experience a broad range of intellectual, artistic and athletic opportunities as they seek to realize their talents and develop their interests.
- Our community is diverse and inspires our students to challenge norms, to respect differing views and to exhibit both divergent and convergent thinking.
- We believe that developing the capacity to ask authentic questions is central to developing the ability to offer solutions to demanding problems.
- Located in the birthplace of New York City, our school offers students a strong sense of place and the opportunity to connect to the neighboring community and local ecology through partnerships and internships.
- By learning from lived experience and through community service, our students are well prepared to promote a sustainable and humane society.
- Encouraged to participate in its development, our students will benefit from valuable lessons in leadership as the founding students of our High School.
