Our students are the beneficiaries of an arts program taught by working artists. The program includes both visual and performing arts.
Visual Arts Program
The core of the visual arts program is encouraging the students to view themselves as artists and help them create and respond to meaning in visual imagery. In Fifth and Sixth Grades, students have a combination of studio and woodworking. In Seventh and Eight Grades, the students have a choice between fine arts or set design.
5th Grade:
In studio art students experiment with a variety of media while learning art history during units such as Renaissance Self-Portraits and Cell Animation. In Woodworking, the 5th graders work to create a sculpture inspired by a contemporary artist
6th Grade:
Sixth Graders continue to study art history and explore various techniques. Units focusing on 20th Century Art include Alexander Calder and Pablo Picasso studies. In Sixth Grade Woodworking, a study of Pop Artists, including Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons, inspire of project of their choice.
7th and 8th Grade:
In studio art, 7th and 8th graders hone their drawing and painting skills with projects that include mural painting, Surrealism, and Impressionism. Woodworking is an art elective that focused on producing high finished quality sets for the theater department's production and performances.
Performing Arts Program
