Located in the cradle of the political and economic history of this country and this city, our students benefit from the wealth of resources right outside our front door. We thoughtfully create curriculum to make use of those resources and others around the city. In addition, our teachers work closely with grade level teachers of other disciplines to integrate curriculum where possible. Collaborative learning groups, small group projects, and multi-media sources are utilized along side a mix of traditional teaching methods such as using a textbook and learning to take notes on various topics.
5th Grade: Geography and Ancient Cultures: Egypt, China, India and Meso-America
6th Grade: Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Medieval and World Religions
7th Grade: Early America through Civil War
8th Grade: Reconstruction through Modern American History
While we want the Middle School students to learn about these various time periods, our goal is to teach them the overarching concepts that lend themselves to studying any period of history in addition to developing a strong foundation in analysis and critical reading skills. These skills are incorporated in our Current Events studies at all grade levels.
